‘Scarface’ Remake Nabs Outstanding Writer in Terence Winter

Terence Winter has signed on to refine the Scarface remake script, originally written by Jonathan Herman for director Antoine Fuqua.

For anyone that doesn’t know the name, Winter created the fantastic prohibition-era TV show Boardwalk Empire; has worked on The Sopranos and is recently coming off Oscar nominations for his screenplay work on The Wolf of Wall Street and Straight Outta Compton, both excellent films.

As a fan of De Palma’s Scarface, which starred Al Pacino off a script by Oliver Stone, you can not ask for a better writer to jump on-board this remake and if anyone can do it justice, then Winter is that anyone.

This will be the third iteration of Scarface, with the first coming way back in 1932.

This franchise is beloved the world over, so the news that it was receiving another remake got me concerned, with the fear that it could tarnish its legacy should the film end up being terrible.

This latest news has given me some hope for the film, with a solid director and writer on board, what could go wrong?

No matter what happens there will always be some backlash from fans as the film will surely not hit the mark for everyone, however with the right team behind it, it should instil some confidence in the fans.

We’ll keep you posted on any new developments on the film as they emerge and in the meantime you can see Fuqua’s latest film The Magnificent Seven in Australian theatres, now.
