Jumanji: The Next Level is the sequel to the 2017 hit-film and features all of the returning cast, as well as some welcome new additions that see its cast have their roles swapped.
The four friends from Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) re-enter the game to search for one of their own, Spencer (Alex Wolff), who appears to have gone missing within the Jumanji game world, however, they’ll soon realise things have changed slightly since the last time they were in there.
For starters, Dwayne Johnsons’s avatar is now occupied by Spencer’s eccentric grandfather (Danny DeVito), and Kevin Hart’s avatar is now occupied by a fellow geriatric, played by Danny Glover.
Young Fridge (Ser’Darius Blain) is now occupying the Jack Black avatar, while young Martha (Morgan Turner) seems to be back in the Karen Gillan avatar.
That might not make much sense if you haven’t seen the first film, so better get onto it.
But for those that have seen it, this should all come as a nice surprise.
Mixing it up in this way makes the movie feel fresh and not just another generic cash-grab sequel.
Kevin Hart mimicking Danny Glover’s quirks is especially funny and should make for some great entertainment.
We can see from the new trailer that The Next Level will feature lots of humour and action-adventure, much like the first film, and looks to be a lot of fun suitable for all ages.
Along with the above-mentioned actors, the film co-stars Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Rhys Darby, Madison Iseman, Dania Ramirez and Colin Hanks.
Expect this new action-blockbuster in cinemas on 26 December 2019.
