Will Arnett headlines the voice cast of the upcoming monster wrestling movie, Rumble, which features a classic underdog story.
Rumble is set in a world where monster wrestling is the premium form of global sports entertainment and the wrestlers are huge superstars (not unlike our own world, really).
A young woman, Winnie (Geraldine Viswanathan), sets out to coach a lazy, but loveable monster named Steve (Will Arnett) and turn him into a world champion.
The underdog sports story is ever so present in the first trailer for Rumble, as we can see that Steve is unfit and uninterested in becoming a wrestler.
As is usually the case with stories like these, however, we can expect Steve to eventually find some motivation, pick up his training and go on to achieve his and Winnie’s goal of hitting the big-league wrestling circuit.
This new children’s animated film from Paramount Animation looks like it will be a fun watch suitable for the whole family, and one that should easily draw in the massive wrestling fanbase.
Paramount Animation hasn’t had the best success with their releases so far, with Monster Trucks (2017), Sherlock Gnomes (2018) and Wonder Park (2019) all being critically panned.
Their film The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (2015) was well-received, however, so with any luck the studio can bounce back with Rumble.
The film is due out on 29 January 2021.
