The new feature film from Kiwi director Lee Tamahori, Mahana, will receive a limited two week theatrical run in Melbourne and Sydney.
The acclaimed film will be released exclusively at Cinema Nova in Melbourne and Dendy Newtown in Sydney, on December 8 for two weeks.
Mahana is directed by Lee Tamahori, who is best known for directing the famous New Zealand film Once Were Warriors (1994).
He does however have several Hollywood directing credits to his name also, that include Along Came a Spider (2001), the James Bond film Die Another Day (2002) and The Devil’s Double (2011), though they’re no comparison to Once Were Warriors, which was brilliant and became an instant cult classic.
That film set up the career of great Kiwi actor Temuera Morrison, who reunites with Tamahori in the lead role of this film.
Morrison went on to star in Star Wars: Episode II, Star Wars: Episode III, Green Lantern, and will soon voice a character in the upcoming Disney film Moana.
It feels like ages since Temuera Morrison has been in a film, so it’s definitely exciting to see him headline this one, especially under the direction of Tamahori, as the two seem extremely compatible working together.
Check out the trailer for the film below before it hits cinemas for it’s limited run soon.
The official synopsis for the film is as follows:
