Dan Stevens and Maren Eggert star in the German science-fiction romance film I’m Your Man, and it looks full of heart and charm.
Maren Eggert plays Alma, a scientist who participates in a three-week study to live with a humanoid robot, Tom (Stevens), designed to be the man of her dreams.
She is sceptical at first but slowly comes around to the charms of Tom the robot.
I’m Your Man is a love story with a sci-fi twist, reminiscent of Spike Jonze’s Her (2013), which saw a man form a relationship with an AI living in his smartphone.
This film takes it to the next level with a fully functional robot explicitly built to cater to the needs of its human partner.
German actress Maren Eggert and British actor Dan Stevens have palpable chemistry as the film’s leads, playing off each other well.
The film teases the possibility of a future where man and machine can coexist to the point of being romantically linked, opening up some thought-provoking themes.
Its light and humorous tone should make it an easy watch while you ponder its peculiarities.
I’m Your Man is directed by Maria Schrader, best known for her work on the popular TV miniseries Unorthodox.
It’s due out in US theatres on 17 September 2021.
