The popular Nic Cage/John Travolta action film Face/Off (1997) gets an Honest Trailer that highlights all of the ridiculous elements of the film, and there are plenty.
The Honest Trailer begins with a rundown of the film’s plot, which, when told the way they tell it, really shows just how ridiculous the film is.
The film’s stars and directing style of John Woo get the next round of criticism in a funny, tongue-in-cheek way, as for most 90’s action film fans (including the Honest Trailer team), this film holds a lot of sentimental value.
It’s an entertaining film that only the likes of renowned director John Woo can pull off, though I wonder, had this film been released today, whether or not it would have received the same warm reception.
Face/Off holds a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which sounds pretty extreme when you consider all the cheesy elements in the film, as outlined in the Honest Trailer below.
I can’t imagine a film released today, with the same plot, starring two of today’s biggest action stars, would sit well with the critics.
It’s more than likely a case of the cheesy-action-movie era simply having passed already, and audiences will rarely stand for it these days.
In any case remember this: Nicolas Cage and John Travolta were once the biggest stars on the planet, as the the video below will remind you.
