Damien Chazelle’s next film chronicles the events leading up to the Apollo 11 moon landing mission, and the first man to set foot on the moon, famed astronaut Neil Armstrong.
First Man is adapted from the 2005 novel ‘First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong’ by author James R. Hansen, and follows the events and life of Neil Armstrong (Gosling), leading up to the historic 1969 moon landing mission.
Judging by its first trailer – this film looks tense, which makes perfect sense when you consider Damien Chazelle is behind it, especially if you’ve seen his breakout film Whiplash (2014).
The Apollo 11 mission was as well, at the time, one of the most dangerous missions ever concocted by NASA, so we can expect the film to be full of drama and intrigue, focusing on themes of sacrifice for family and country.
This is Chazelle’s follow-up film to the 2016 critical hit La La Land, for which he won a Best Director Oscar for.
Gosling is joined by an all-star cast that includes Claire Foy, Corey Stoll, Kyle Chandler, Jason Clarke, Shea Whigham, and Christopher Abbott.
First Man is due to hit cinemas on 11 October 2018, check out the first trailer below.
