Former MMA star turned actress Gina Carano has been added to the roster of the new Star Wars spinoff series The Mandalorian.
Empire Online reports the news, days after it was announced that Pedro Pascal was also set to join the team.
The official synopsis for the series reads as follows:
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerged in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic”.
Gina Carano is a legend of the MMA world.
From Muay Thai to the UFC, Gina was a trailblazer in MMA and for women’s MMA as a whole.
Following a move into performing arts, she has been slowly building up her acting resume, starring in such productions as Deadpool (2016) and 2011’s Haywire (a film role made specifically for her by Steven Soderbergh).
This is probably her biggest acting gig to date, with The Mandalorian due to premiere on the new Disney streaming service known as Disney+.
No solid information has been released yet but we’re looking at some screen time in 2019.
