Check out this awesome fan-made trailer for an Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff film set in the Star Wars universe, featuring Ewen McGregor.
Vimeo user and Star Wars fan Rich Williamson uploaded a teaser video showing what a potential Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff film could look like, and it looks deep.
His version would follow Obi-Wan during his time as a hermit, in the periods between the Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
The trailer isn’t too exciting, but it’s cut together really well and looks professional considering it’s cut together with footage from the Star Wars prequels and McGregor’s film Last Days in the Desert, which saw him playing Jesus Christ during his forty days wandering the desert.
The footage from that film actually fits the trailer quite well, as he essentially has the same outfit as Kenobi and is set in the desert, which is similar to the planet of Tatooine, where we first meet Obi-Wan in A New Hope.
Ever since it was announced that there would be standalone spinoff films set in the Star Wars universe, lots of interest has been shown by fans to see a spinoff based on McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, and considering Disney is developing a Han Solo film as well as rumoured Boba Fett and Yoda films, it makes sense that a Kenobi film should be thrown in the mix somewhere there as well.
McGregor has also expressed interest in revisiting the role, after telling Steve Weintraub of Collider the following earlier in the year:
“I’d very much like to do one too. I think the story between Episode III and Episode IV, I think there’s a story there. I think that’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, if there is one. The one that bridges my Obi-Wan Kenobi and Alec’s Obi-Wan Kenobi because there’s a—I don’t know how long he’s in the desert there, but it’s got to be twenty or thirty years.”
It seems like it’s almost inevitable that we’ll be getting a film that focuses on this character, it’s just a matter of when.
