The new Disney family-focused animated film Encanto is a vibrant cross between a coming-of-age tale and a superhero movie set in Latin America.
Set in Colombia amongst a tight-knit family all of whom possess superpowers, except Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz).
The source of the magic appears to be tied to their casita, their house, and Mirabel wonders why she wasn’t blessed with magical powers, living in the shadows of her siblings.
Mirabel is thrust on a journey of self-discovery when their house comes to life as she finds out that magic powers aren’t everything.
As far as Disney family movies go, Encanto seems to have it all and should be a sure-fire hit for the studio.
Judging by this new trailer, we can expect a lot of humour, family themes, rich culture, and exciting music.
The film features original songs from Hamilton and In the Heights (2021) brainchild Lin-Manuel Miranda, which should add another element of enjoyment.
Furthermore, the filmmakers have brought to life the rich history and culture of Colombia and Latin America, giving Encanto an even broader appeal.
The film features a talented voice cast that alongside Beatriz includes John Leguizamo, María Cecilia Botero, Diane Guerrero, Jessica Darrow, Angie Cepeda, and Wilmer Valderrama.
Check out Disney’s latest animated film in theatres from the 2nd of December.
