Director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal return to follow up their hit film Zero Dark Thirty (2012), with Detroit, based on a true story.
Detroit is inspired by the true story of a police raid that resulted in one of the largest citizen uprisings in American history, back in 1967.
Judging by the trailer we can expect to see a heavily dramatic film, much like the filmmaking duo’s previous work.
Detroit is based in the city of the same name, and will focus on race relations back in a tumultuous period of American history.
It’s been five years since Zero Dark Thirty (see my review here), which came out four years after Bigelow’s previous film The Hurt Locker (2008).
Both of those films are must-see films, so this next one should really be one to look out for, as we don’t get to see a Bigelow/Boal team-up all that often, and when they do team up, we’re usually in for some outstanding cinema.
The film stars John Boyega of recent Star Wars fame, Will Poulter who is creeping up the Hollywood rankings, as well as Anthony Mackie, John Krasinski and Jack Reynor.
It’s due to hit cinemas in the USA on 4 August 2017, check out the first trailer below.
