Jason Sudeikis and Dan Stevens join Hathaway in this original film by Spanish director Nacho Vigalondo, director of 2007’s cult classic Timecrimes.
Colossal follows Hathaway’s character in the midst of a personal crisis, all the while a giant Kaiju beast (think Godzilla) is destroying down-town Seoul.
Things start getting strange when she discovers the Kaiju’s movements are directly linked to her own (you’ll have to see the trailer to see what I mean).
Judging by the trailer, this film looks like it will be a unique take on the monster-film genre, with its elements of comedy and indie-like obscurity.
I imagine the final result could go either way though, as these high-concept films can generally miss the mark.
Director Nacho Vigalondo did successfully direct Timecrimes though, which is was awesome, however his work after that film hasn’t really been that impressive.
Colossal has an interesting cast at least, with Anne Hathaway, Jason Sudeikis and Dan Stevens making up the three big names in the film; a combo you probably wouldn’t have picked to appear in a film together.
Colossal is due out on 7 April 2017 in the USA, check out the short trailer below.
