The ‘new world’ that is, as it’s known in the dystopian science-fiction action-adventure film Chaos Walking from director Doug Liman.
Ridley plays Viola Eade, a woman who crash lands on a planet that resembles Earth, yet is populated only by men.
There she meets Todd (Tom Holland), and discovers that the people on this ‘new world’ can not only hear each other’s thoughts, but visualise them, in what’s been dubbed as ‘The Noise’.
Todd promises to protect Viola after her life is threatened, sending the pair on a dangerous journey to uncover the planet’s secrets.
Chaos Walking is based on the best-selling young-adult novel ‘The Knife of Never Letting Go’ by author Patrick Ness, and is directed by Edge of Tomorrow (2014), The Bourne Identity (2002), and American Made (2017) helmer, Doug Liman.
The trailer for the film certainly gives off that young-adult movie vibe, so it seems as though this adaptation has kept true to the tone of the book.
The film features an intriguing premise that’s sure to stir up social commentary, and for the big-screen-experience-loving audience out there, it has plenty of epic action.
Daisy Ridley of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) fame and Tom Holland of Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) look perfectly suited to play these lead characters, and the film features an impressive supporting cast that includes Mads Mikkelsen, Demián Bichir, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, Kurt Sutter, and David Oyelowo.
Chaos Walking is due to release on 21 January 2021.
