‘Captive State’ Sci-Fi Thriller Trailer Promises Utopia, Delivers Destruction

Captive State trailer

A mysterious new trailer for the upcoming sci-fi thriller Captive State is here for our curious consumption.

Featuring John Goodman and Vera Farmiga, the Captive State trailer blends the dream of a holistic, utopian paradise, void of crime, poverty and unemployment; with footage of carnage and chaos, ultimately teasing us with visions of a floating monolithic structure over the earth.

Here’s what we know so far about Captive State: 10 years after some badass extraterrestrial life force comes down to earth to carve a seemingly perfect civilisation (despite all the screaming and running from its inhabitants in the trailer), humanity’s existence within the faux-topia is dire.

The film will explore all angles of the conflict within Chicago’s residence.

Honestly, if seeing John Goodman’s stoic march down a beaming gateway with a fighter pilot’s breathing apparatus doesn’t do it for you, then I don’t know what will.

At the helm of this epic thriller is director Rupert Wyatt, known for reinvigorating our fear that animals will take over the earth in Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), so if there’s anyone capable to explore alien lifeforms ruling our world while remaining heartfelt in its characters, it’s Wyatt.

Here’s hoping the film turns out as intriguing as its trailer.

Captive State is due for release on 29 March 2019.
