Big Win for ‘Me Before You’ at Global Box Office

big

The romantic drama Me Before You has won big at the global box office, earning over $200 million USD on a $20 million USD budget.

The film is based on the 2012 bestselling novel of the same name by Jojo Moyes and is directed by Thea Sharrock, about a well-to-do English-woman who becomes a carer for a wealthy quadriplegic man – and romance ensues.

This is an outstanding return on an investment by New Line, MGM and Warner Bros’ studios, considering some blockbusters that turn in multiple times that amount aren’t as profitable these days.

The film pulled in $144.4 million USD internationally and grossed $56.3 million USD in America, and it’s still due to be released on Japan on October 2, meaning it could make that much more.

It’s an awesome achievement when a low-budget film can earn over ten times its investment and it just goes to show that there’s still room for small films to earn big money.

The film itself wasn’t exceptional, but a decent enough watch (check out my review here).

It did however star Emilia Clarke, who has become a massive drawcard ever since becoming a regular on the popular TV series Game of Thrones, so combine that with the original author’s fan-base, and a romantic tearjerker of a film, then you have a winner it seems.
