Paddington 2 follows the misadventures of the famous bear Paddington, in the full trailer for the sequel to 2014’s highly regarded first film.
Voiced by Ben Whishaw, Paddington 2 sees the fuzzy bear look for odd jobs to save enough money to buy a rare book as a gift for his aunty.
Unfortunately, things take a turn for the worse when the book is stolen by the villainous Phoenix Buchanan (Hugh Grant) and Paddington is wrongfully accused of the theft, and sent to jail.
The trailer seems to give away a fair amount of plot detail, however I assume there’s plenty it’s not showing us also.
It would have been good to go into the film without the knowledge of Paddington doing a stint in lock-up, as it would have made for a nice surprise.
However this is a children’s movie, so maybe the surprise would not have been as nice for them.
In any case the film looks like it will be full of classic, dry British humour, and features a great cast to help sell the comedy.
Whishaw and Grant are joined by the likes of Jim Broadbent, Michael Gambon, Imelda Staunton, Sally Hawkins, Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Peter Capaldi and Noah Taylor in various roles.
The first Paddington film was highly rated by critics and fans alike, and the early buzz is looking good for the sequel.
Paddington 2 hits cinemas on 21 December 2017 in Australia.
