Andy Weir’s ‘Artemis’ set for Adaption by ‘Captain Marvel’ Writer

Andy Weir, the man whose debut novel The Martian convinced Ridley Scott to knuckle up and make great sci-fi movies once again, has landed some serious creative powerhouses for the upcoming adaption of his sophomore effort, Artemis.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet, the writer of Tomb Raider (2018) and the upcoming Captain Marvel (2019) is set to adapt the novel for the wide world of cinema, joining directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

This marks the first directorial efforts of Lord/Miller since 2014’s 22 Jump Street, after their infamous removal from the director’s helm in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Interestingly, both Solo and Artemis centre around smugglers set in outer space, so hopefully Lord and Miller actually get to fulfil their vision in this story.

I can’t handle having my hopes broken once again like some poor kid waiting for his deadbeat father to show up to his football game, knowing full well he’s never coming.

Despite The Martian’s novel and subsequent film adaption receiving stellar reviews and even greater financial profits, Artemis’ less-than-promising reviews could be a worry for the film adaption.

Nevertheless, Robertson-Dworet knows a thing or two regarding female-driven screenplays.

Only time will tell whether this adaption will knock it out of the park or get thrown straight to the discount bin.
