So before you get too excited, it’s a behind-the-scenes image, not a still from the sequel to the 1982 classic Blade Runner, but still cool nevertheless.
It was announced today that the film will be titled Blade Runner 2049, which is still the only detail anyone knows about the film as yet.
The first film was set in the year 2019, so the sequel is set 30 years into the future, which is roughly how much time has passed since the first film (35 years when the sequel is released next year).
I’m really looking forward to this, but mostly to see this combination of cast and director in action.
The film is directed by Denis Villeneuve who has been on a tear recently, with films like Prisoners, Enemy, and his upcoming sci-fi film Arrival.
Harrison Ford reprises his role from the first film, and he’s joined by superstars Ryan Gosling and Jared Leto, along with Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Lennie James, Barkhad Abdi and Ana de Armas.
I loved everything about 1982’s Blade Runner, except for the ending, which felt like a massive anti-climax to me, though aside from that, director Ridley Scott absolutely nailed everything else in that film and it rightfully became an instant classic.
Also released today was a behind-the-scenes image from the film, which features the original and new director, along with the film’s original and new stars, which you can see below.
Blade Runner 2049 releases across cinemas on 6 October 2017.
