Assassination Nation follows the implosion of a small town after a malicious data hack exposes the secrets of the town’s residents.
Lily (Odessa Young) and yer high-school friends spend their days partying and engrossed in social media when a data breach reveals theirs, and the rest of the town’s secrets.
The townspeople then turn on each other in a brutally violent fashion.
The film’s key theme is that of privacy and the devastating effect of a lack thereof.
Sure, it’s a far-fetched reaction to the situation presented in the film, though not completely implausible.
In an age where online privacy is considered dubious at best, director Sam Levinson has chosen a perfectly relevant topic as the basis of his gloriously violent film.
As you’ll see in the trailer below, Assassination Nation doesn’t seem to hold back.
The film looks like a cross between The Purge (2013-) series of films and Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers (2012); a titillating portrayal of a youth uprising in relative times.
Assassination Nation stars Odessa Young, Suki Waterhouse, Hari Nef, Abra, Anika Noni Rose, Colman Domingo, Maude Apatow, Joel McHale and Bella Thorne.
It’s due for release on 21 September 2018.
