Tom & Jerry Are Back Up to Their Old Tricks in New Movie

new tom and jerry movie

Classic cat-and-mouse adversaries Tom and Jerry return to the big screen for some more murderous hilarity.

In this new hybrid between live-action and animated film, audiences are introduced to the cat Tom, and the mouse Jerry, and how their relationship came about.

The film is set in an upmarket hotel with a mouse problem; the solution: nature’s number one defence against mice – cats.

In comes Tom, however, Jerry is often too smart for Tom, therefore setting up many hilarious moments where the titular feline ends up on short end of things.

These classic Hanna-Barbera characters have been around since the 1940s and have stood the test of time due to the endless amount of ways a smart mouse can kill a dumb cat.

The cat-and-mouse antics are a universal theme, so the film should appeal to audiences of all ages, across all languages.

It makes me wonder, however, in 2020, will kids care about these characters, or are they now irrelevant?

Based on their timeless appeal, and comedy that doesn’t really get old, Warner Brothers are more than likely confident that Tom & Jerry will bring them a decent financial return (if everything goes well with the release).

The human characters in the film are played by Chloe Grace Moretz and Michael Peña, and the film is due for release on 5 March 2021.
