First Official Teaser Trailer for ‘Venom’ Starring Tom Hardy

Fans of movies based on Marvel comicbook characters have been waiting for years for a decent portrayal of Spider-Man’s most famous foe, and finally, Tom Hardy and Ruben Fleischer are giving the people what they want.

In 2007, fans were given a watered-down version of the character in Spider-Man 3 and ever since, fans have been eagerly awaiting his return to the big screen.

Venom is set to hit cinemas on 4 October 2018 and we finally get a taste of what we should expect.

The recently released teaser trailer fades into Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) in an MRI machine, with the trailer showing a great juxtaposition with its opening shot of the placid lake and a hospital room.

The narrator guides us along, telling us tales of how life can turn you into a beast and the battle between the inner monster.

What this tells me is that we’re going to see a very conflicted character in Venom, which is just what audiences want.

Eddie Brock is a lot like Gollum in Lord of The Rings or Hulk in The Avengers, in the sense that he has two very different personalities, one kind and one violent, and he’s forced to suffer and deal with the consequences of having two sides to himself.

Casting Tom Hardy as Venom may be one of the best casting choices for a comicbook character I’ve seen in recent years.

We know from Hardy’s past performances that he has what it takes to deliver a complex and compelling performance and not to mention, great voice acting.

It will also be interesting to see if this film fits in to the MCU in any way, or if it will be its own standalone film, or set up a new Spider-Man/Venom universe at Sony.

With the resurgence of Spider-Man, it would be great to see Tom Holland and Tom Hardy battle it out on the big screen.

Most of all, I want this film to be R-Rated; after Deadpool (2016) and Logan (2017), studios know that violent comicbook films work.

If they choose to go the PG-13 route, then I think it would be a missed opportunity, as if there’s one comicbook film that needs to be R-Rated – it’s Venom.
