The creepy first poster for renowned director Darren Aronofsky’s next film Mother! has just dropped, starring Jennifer Lawrence.
Not much is known about the film at this time, however it appears to be a psychological horror/thriller, of which Aronofsky is a master of; see Black Swan (2010).
The new poster features a porcelain-doll style illustrated Jennifer Lawrence, holding her bleeding heart that appears to have been freshly ripped out of her chest, standing in a lush garden.
It’s not for the faint of heart, even for an illustration.
IMDB has the following to say about the film’s storyline:
Centers on a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.
Seeing as Javier Bardem is listed on the poster, we can only assume that he’ll play Lawrence’s other half of the couple.
The film also features an outstanding cast that includes Ed Harris, Domhnall Gleeson, Kristen Wiig and Michelle Pfeiffer – could they be the uninvited guests the synopsis refers to?
Is Mother! Aronofsky’s take on the classic home-invasion horror sub-genre?
We still don’t know yet, however I imagine the marketing for this film should pick up a gear soon, and I’m eagerly anticipating the first trailer for this one.
Aronofsky’s last film Noah (2014) received a mixed reception at best, so it will be interesting to see how his next film goes.
For the record I thought Noah was great, and very underrated.
Mother! releases across cinemas on 12 October 2017.
