Go Behind-the-Scenes of ‘The Meg’ with New ‘How the Meg was Born’ Featurette

the meg behind the scenes

The latest featurette for the action-adventure monster-movie The Meg goes behind-the-scenes for an insight into the prehistoric creature.

Expert deep-sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) is sent to the bottom of the sea to rescue the crew of a stranded submersible vessel that’s been attacked by a 75-foot ancient Megalodon.

Taylor and his associates must then prevent the unstoppable creature from wreaking further havoc on the world.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen an awesome killer-shark movie.

Since 1975’s Jaws (the greatest killer-shark movie and arguably the greatest monster movie), there have been few shark movies of note.

Not counting D-grade films like the Sharknado (2013) series, Deep Blue Sea (1999), Open Water (2003) and more recently, The Shallows (2016) come to mind.

While each of those had entertaining aspects to them, none of them were all that memorable.

Is it perhaps because Spielberg set the bar so high with Jaws that it’s virtually impossible for a modern film to even come close?

Most likely.

Is The Meg going to be the next killer-shark movie for the ages?

Most likely… Not.

It does, however, look like a ridiculously good time, which is all we can expect.

The new behind-the-scenes featurette below features interviews with the film’s cast and crew, as we get a glimpse into how the shark and some of the sets were created.

We also learn about the physical aspects of the shark, which was essentially the T-Rex of underwater predators in prehistoric times.

The filmmakers appear to have done an amazing job with the visual effects, and it’s obvious to see this film doesn’t take itself too seriously when it comes to the plot and the dialogue.

Those things combined should make for an awesome action-adventure popcorn monster movie.

You can check out the film’s official trailer here.

Jon Turteltaub directs and the film stars Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao and Cliff Curtis.

It’s due for release on 30 August 2018.
