‘Alien: Covenant’ – First Official Trailer

The trailer for Alien: Covenant has been released, taking us back into the world Ridley Scott created back in 1979, and fans shouldn’t be disappointed.

Based on this first trailer, it appears Covenant’s style will be more in line with the original 1979 film, that being a horror-first approach, as opposed to Prometheus (2012), which relied heavily on philosophical science-fiction.

That should please fans of the original film series, however there’s an underlying sense that we’ve seen it all before, so this approach may not be the one Scott and team should have gone for.

I would have preferred this film to follow the tune of Prometheus rather than hark back to the style used in the first Alien film.

In any case, I enjoyed the trailer and it looks like the film will be entertaining if nothing else, and in the hands of Ridley Scott, we should be in for a treat.

In Alien: Covenant, the crew of the Covenant spaceship set out to colonise a new planet, when they discover a terror unlike they’ve ever seen before, whose only goal is to pick them apart one by one until there’s no one left.

It’s definitely a case of been-there-done-that, so we can just hope there are some surprises in store for us.

At the very least we have a great cast that includes Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir and James Franco.

The film is due out 18 May 2017 in Australian cinemas.
