The DC Fandome event has come and gone and left a bunch of awesome new content for fans to enjoy, including the first look at The Batman.
The event, which ran for 24 hours on 22 August 2020 (in the States), saw a lot of different virtual panels showcase the upcoming slate of DC TV shows, movies, and video games, and it featured interviews with a lot of the key players.
The director of The Batman (2021), Matt Reeves, made and appearance and gave a lot of insight into the direction his new film and characters were going in, and the director of Aquaman (2018), James Wan and the film’s star, Patrick Wilson, also appeared and discussed what we might look forward to in Aquaman 2 (but sadly, no footage), amongst many others.
Dwayne Johnson finally revealed details about his upcoming film Black Adam, with an animated teaser trailer (see below), and a couple of impressive new video games were announced.
There was a lot of exciting content released at the event and the best is featured below, check it out!
DC Fandome Movie Trailers
Wonder Woman 1984
The success of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman (2017) guaranteed a sequel and while we’ve already had a few looks at the film in 2020, the DC Fandome event gave us an action-packed new trailer that showcases more of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman in action, along with a closer look at Kristen Wiig’s villainous Cheetah in full costume.
The film looks like a lot of fun and appears to capture all of the same enjoyable aspects of the first film, with a 90s backdrop that’s sure to provide plenty of moments of comic relief (stick to the end of the trailer for a glimpse).
It’s due for release on 1 October 2020.
The Batman
Fans finally got to see footage of Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated feature film, The Batman, by way of a new trailer, which does not disappoint.
The film gives us a good look at Robert Pattinson as the titular hero as well as the tone of the film, which is, expectedly so, dark and gritty.
The film will give us classic Batman villains The Penguin (Colin Farell), Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz), and The Riddler (Paul Dano), all of whom we get a sneak peek of here (see if you can recognise Farell in the trailer).
The film looks promising and we can’t wait to see more of it before it releases some time in 2021.
The Suicide Squad
After finding huge success at Marvel with Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 (2017), director James Gunn has jumped ship to DC Comics to make their new film, The Suicide Squad.
The first Suicide Squad (2016) film from David Ayer was mediocre at best, though it looks like DC may have found the formula for success in hiring Gunn.
Featuring some returning cast members such as Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, and Jai Courtney, The Suicide Squad looks to rejuvenate the franchise with a fun, original, and epic action-adventure film, the style of which can be seen in the new behind-the-scenes video above.
The film is due for release next year.
Zack Snyder’s The Justice League
The phenomenon that was the #ReleasetheSnyderCut movement has paid dividends for DC fans with Zack Snyder releasing the first trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
The trailer is filled with entirely new (or at least, unseen) footage of the film, and is set to run over four, one-hour episodes on HBO Max in 2021.
We also get to see the film’s new, main villain, Darkseid, who never made it to the original Justice League (2017).
Set to a fitting song, all things considered, Zack Snyder’s Justice League looks like it should satisfy the hardcore fans that made it happen.
Black Adam
Dwayne Johnson appears in character as Black Adam, the title character of the film of the same name, which got an animated trailer revealing a bit of history about the character.
While made entirely of what is essentially concept art, the teaser offers just enough to get fans wanting to see more, and Johnson should make an excellent addition to the DC family.
The film is due for release in 2021.
DC Fandome Video Game Trailers
Gaming fans were delighted to see the announcement of two new video games from highly respected studios, check them out below!
Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League
From Rocksteady Studios, the creators of the hugely popular Batman: Arkham series comes Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League.
The new trailer is all cinematic but gives us a look at the game’s story and idea of the tone, which looks humorous and fun.
It’ll feature multiple playable characters in either single-player mode or multiplayer co-op.
Releasing in 2022 on next-gen consoles, fans are now anticipating the release of gameplay footage, which should come soon enough.
Gotham Knights
Another new game announced was Gotham Knights from developer WB Games Montréal – the team behind Batman: Arkham Origins.
This one sees Batman take a step away as the game’s protagonist and allows players to take control of characters like Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood, in either a single-player campaign or multiplayer co-op.
Some gameplay footage was also released and it really does look impressive, and in line with what fans have come to expect from the studio, which should make it one of the more anticipated game releases of next year.
